Chairman Bass stated that the Rupert West House was recently purchased by Moyock Baptist. The church would be ok with the house being moved. Reid Thomas of North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDCR) will visit the site to document the house.
Chairman Bass passed out information on the Kill Devil Hills (KDH) tour of homes.
Chairman Bass stated the desire to do another tour this year. The commission discussed potential tour properties and assigned tasks to members for follow up with property owners, October 14, 2023, from 11 AM to 4 PM was selected as the date and times for the tour. The commission discussed contacting Charles Oldham, the author of The Senator’s Son to give a talk on the day of the tour. The commission will ask for volunteers from Tourism and the Masons.
Chairman Bass discussed scheduling meetings during the day unless there is a hearing. 2 PM works well. Staff will send out meeting dates for the year.
Ms. Agreste discussed making informational folders and mentioned the in-person meeting that was previously discussed. The commission decided to do a video instead. Staff will coordinate the production of a video.
Staff provided updates on the new meeting agenda software, the Focus on Currituck will feature the Boswood house, owners of the Culong House reached out, staff sent an email with information. Chairman Bass’s first term expired, the Board Of Commissioners approve a second term at a future meeting. Staff will send out training opportunities from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).
Ms. Snowden mentioned that May is Historic Preservation Month.
