Senior Center and Parks & Recreation just completed the 4th Citizens Academy with 14-15 participants. There were 20 people enrolled this year. We had Senator Bobby Hanig and Board of Commissioner and Volunteer Selina Jarvis deliver meals with Stacy for March for Meals. AARP Tax Prep wrapped up on April 3rd. Volunteers were able to help 216 Currituck County residents complete their tax return, free of charge. Outreach Programming with Library will continue with a program taking place at the Barco center in August. The "New Tax Laws and Your Estate" presentation in March with the Chamber of Commerce and Grace Wealth Partners went well with 30-40 people in attendance. "Outsmarting Scammers in the Digital Age" with Currituck County IT Director Logan Steese and "Bathroom Safety" with Swimme & Son in March, both also went well. The painting project at the Barco site is almost complete. Brenda Twiford was hired as the new Site Manager at the Knotts Island Center. Corolla Yoga will end on June 30th and resume in September. There was a "non-certification" CPR/First Aide class for Corolla seniors held September 2024 with 10-12 seniors in attendance. Stacy offered a "Respecting Choices" presentation with Kayla White from the Albemarle Commission in March, however there was no interest shown and the program was cancelled. "Law Enforcements Response, Role & Responsibilities - Alzheimer's/Dementia" presentation with Sheriff Matt Beickert at the Barco site went very well. Ellie Galloway, Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group Facilitator, said she received a lot of good feedback following the presentation. Ellie also recommended having a program with DSS Director Samantha Hurd on the services she can offer to help caregivers of those with Alzheimer's and Dementia.

Stacy did a quick review of what this year's Budget Narrative includes which will be available on the County website in the near future. Stacy continues to encourage Joint Site Programming amongst all 3 centers. This consist of joint trips, programs and activities. Stacy is considering implementing an Out of State Guest Pass that would allow seniors 1ce a year to bring 2 friends/family members to visit a center with them that live out of state.  All 3 centers do accept donations for varying reasons throughout the year. We ask that donations are dropped off during normal operating hours and not left outside of centers on porches, ramps or sidewalks. Stacy recently spoke for the Moyock Women's Club about the Home Delivered Meals program and how we ensure client needs are being met during holiday and inclement weather closings. The Moyock Women's Club donated shelf stable food bags for Home Delivered meal clients during our most recent snowstorm.

The Senior Center continues to partner with the Moyock Library for programming including craft classes, painting classes and presentations. The Senior Center will be taking a group to the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Walk in Elizabeth City on June 5, 2025. Currituck and Camden Veterans Services Officer Robert Cain will be giving a presentation on services available to our veterans and how to access help on May 22, 2025, at the Barco center. The Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group meets every third Thursday of every month at 10:30am at the Barco center. The Senior Center Bell Choir will be performing at Central Elementary School on May 19, 2025, and Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitaion on May 23, 2025. Stacy asked the groups feedback on possibly starting a very limited program offering transportation 1ce or 2ce a month to seniors in need of getting to a grocery store, etc.  The program would have very strict guidelines and qualifications and would only possibly come to fruition after considerable planning is done.  The board thought it would be a good idea if areas of concerns could be worked out.
